HELP infusing IV drugs?
I have a problem of calculating couple I can not solve. If you could give me the formula and the answers it would be great! Thank you. 1. A 2g in a solution of 500 ml is to infuse at a rate of 2mg/min. Calculate the mL / h flow. 2. The doctor Morphine sulfate IV 2mg/hr orders continue for refractory pain. The pharmacy sends a bag labeled 100mg IV morphine sulfate in 250 ml. Calculate ml / hr. Any help is greatly appreciated:)
A 2 ml gram/500 must infuse the 2mg/minute. 1 gram = 1000 mg So there 2000mg/500ml or 4 mg per ml. For 2 mg per minute, you will need to deliver 0.5 ml per minute or 30 ml per hour. MS is ordered to 2 mg / hour. The solution is labeled 100 mg per 250 ml. Equation is 100 mg: 250 ml. Divide both sides by 50. There is 2 mg per 5 ml, so the rate is 5 ml per hour.
