is it possible to bronze a stainless steel surface?
I cant find a bronze mailbox I like. So I'm wondering if I can take one of the millions of stainless steel mailboxes and have it treated somehow to darken the surface, bronze it somehow.

Most aren't stainless steel. If you find one that isn't painted, you could take it to a local plating shop and see if they can plate or anodize a coating you like onto it. Bronzing is likely more expensive than you want, and would probably produce a coarser surface than you want unless you're willing to do a lot of polishing. Or find a metalworking artist you like and commission them to make one for you.
