Wet basement solutions?
We own an antique home with a rubble wall foundation/ dirt floor/sump pit, hot air furnace keeps basement warm. There is no way to keep spring snow melt water out of basement. I have placed 6 mil plastic on floor and run a dehumidifier. A basement company proposes to install "clean space" thick liner material on walls and floor, install a new sump pit and pump, a industrial strength dehumidifier, non clogging drain tiles to direct water to the pit, and a material under the liner that will allow walking on surface. The pictures of before and after are impressive. I am not sure about
1. How the white surfaces will hold up over time
2. what happens if water gets on top of the liner?
3. cost ($10,000) vs. benefit
Does anyone have any experience with these franchised basement water problem solving companies and the "clean space" product?
First answer is entertaining but crap
Well at my dads we have talked about using it their are a few things you may want to do, but a de humidifier it helps to prevent mold and fungus, you also need to make sure that your basement floor is atleast level if not at an angle towards where it leaks to so that water will drain to it and not remain stagnent, their is a floring meterial that is wood composite squares at the home-depot that are for wet basement floors they arnt to bad of a price and hold up good to put any meterial down safely it all depends on how water flow and where it's mainly at, make sure that your gutters don't drain strait down that will cause water to go down into the foundation. You also may want to consider putting the corigated draniage pipe down with gravel arroung your house to re-direct water some water flow deeper it's put the better just have it match up with the level of your ditch, remember it needs to be below atleast one foot to prevent it from being crushed! well hope my ideas have helped you! O ya almost forgot they do make a trim for your basement if it's leaking where the block meets the concreat slab that is trim that has a channel for directing water. hey hope that you have a sump basin for putting in the floor it drains out much better I can tell you how to do it just send an e mail my way!
