How long will it take for my credit score to recover?
This is a follow up question for a previous question.
Ok I had good credit until I found out that I forgot all about a $140 purchase made with a store credit card 7 months ago and I never got the statements since I moved and no one forwarded them to me until recently. I paid right away. I have found out even though I have been paying off all my visa and other credit card bills in full immediately every month (about a 1000-1500 a month) that just because of that $140 purchase on that store credit card that I have used twice in over a year that my credit has been effected quite a bit. So what can I do to undo the damage without taking out a loan on something and paying that to improve my credit score? How long will it take for this blemish on my record to stop hurting my credit score?
enroll in online statements and get notifications via email. Now these days you do not need to write check to pay bills. You just simply authorize bank to make ACH transfer or send check on behalf you. You do it by online banking. Also if you want, put credit monitoring on your file. This way if there will be made any changes, whether positive or negative, you will be informed via call or notification via email. Usually when you receive email, they do should not put there any sensitive information, they give a link by which you log on to secure, encrypted web site. Credit monitoring will not only protect from your own mistakes, but also from potential identity thefts. They cost around $10-$15.
