Rich people will you give the homeless a warm bed tonight?
Why dont you go out and find a homeless person and give him or her and warm bed for the night? Its freezin all over the UK so be a good samaritan.

I know for a fact that there are homeless people outside tonight who would accept the offer of shelter if asked but they havent been asked. Most people dont give them a second thought.
The sentiment is good, but sometimes not all that feasible.
Even if all the rich people, middle class and working class people did that, there would STILL be some homeless people who would refuse to accept the help.
Why?
Because many of them are highly independent individuals who don't want to be beholden to anyone, and some have severe trust issues because of mistreatment in the past. Some have mental health issues and can't register when a situation is dangerous. Still, others of them are just plain rebellious...they won't even go to established shelters because they don't want to follow the rules of the shelter re: alcohol, tobacco or drugs.
The results of that sort of stubborness can be deadly.
Not long ago, I read of a 47 year old homeless woman in Vancouver, BC, Canada who had been repeatedly offered shelter, but she consistently refused. Just near Christmas, she was found dead on the street because the candle she used to keep warm caught her blanket on fire! Two winters ago, a 79 year old homeless man died in a city not far from Portland, Oregon. Same situation he was offered help, but he kept refusing it... he eventually died from hypothermia.
This past November and December, police started breaking up homeless camps along the Willamette River in several Oregon towns, and telling the people to move on. They claimed the camps had unsanitary health conditions and were harboring criminals...but just the same those people had nowhere else to go...but even when help was offered, some of them STILL refused to accept it!
It's a frustrating situation for those sincerely trying to help, but the fact is you can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.
