Considering homeschooling 10th grader?
I have a 15 yr old that does well academically in the PS but not socially she hates the mean and bullying kids.For the past few years she has had a problem "fiting in" with some of her peers.When she did work hard to "fit in" she just ended up with lower grades and getting into trouble.This is making her depressed and I am really worried about her. I am considerering taking her out of the PS system and allowing her to enroll in FL virtual school.My husband is nearly convinced, where he prev. had the attitude she should tough it out.As for socialization I am not sure what to do. After reading posts here I am probably thinking to much about it.She is currently on a mission trip with the youth from our church and then continuing to a trip with a Venture Crew (co-ed boyscout type group). My question is what experience have others had beginning a homeschooling atmosphere at HS level and has anyone had experience with FL vitual school?I don't think I am confortable with teaching her myself.
Good grief. Pull her out of that school if she wants to homeschool. Everybody would like you to believe that high school is a wonderful rewarding experience that we all have to go through. For many, many kids high school is torture that has a life long negative impact. She sounds like a bright kid with initiative. She only has a few more years under your care. Let them be happy, productive years that can help her build a future. I wish I could have taken my kids out of school when they were that age. I made them endure it and they are still suffering from the experience. They are my biggest fans as I homeschool the younger children. Talk to your daughter, choose a curriculum that suits her needs. You won't regret it, but you may be very sorry later on if you keep her in an unhealthy environment. And you don't have to teach her,she is a big girl, the materials do that, You just need to provide the encourgement, love and support.
